Josh Neer is 2-0 in his fourth stint with the UFC as he choked Duane Ludwig unconscious in the first round of their bout at UFC on FX 1 at Nashville on Friday.
After the two clinched for the beginning of the first round, Duane Ludwig came in with several strikes that wobbled Neer, but then Neer answered back with jabs of his own. This patter continued to repeat until Ludwig tried for a takedown. Neer put in a deep guillotine. Ludwig raised his hand to tap, but was out before he even had the chance to tap. The bout was stopped at 3:04 of the first round.
Neer is 33-10 after this win. He has been in and out of the UFC, but has two straight stoppage wins since rejoining the promotion in October. Ludwig has been on a two-fight win streak, and now is 21-12.

CHICAGO -- Mike Russow did his city proud with a decision victory at UFC on Fox 2. The judges scored it 29-28, 29-28, 30-27 for Russow, causing loud cheers from the crowd at the United Center.
Russow started with a quick takedown. When they returned to their feet, Russow was aggressive, landing a combination before clinching up with Einemo. He moved inside with strikes, and then got another takedown. From there Russow controlled Einemo until the last five seconds, when Einemo briefly reversed position before the round ended.
The second round started much like the first, with Russow getting a quick takedown. Russow briefly stood up and towered over Einemo, but returned to controlling him on the ground. They were stood up with 22 seconds left in the round, but Russow returned to the takedown that served him well for the first two rounds.
Einemo was more aggressive in the third round, and nailed Russow with a knee and a punch. Russow got the takedown again, but had more trouble with it. When on the ground, Einemo came close to take Russow's back, but Russow slipped out of it. Russow controlled Einemo for most of the round, but the two were stood up with just over a minute left. Einemo hit Russow with a knee, then Russow used the next knee for another takedown.
Russow is a full-time member of the Chicago Police Department and took a month off from the department to prepare for this bout. He's now 4-0 in the UFC and 15-1 overall. Einemo, a member of the famed Golden Glory camp, has lost both of his UFC bouts.

CHICAGO -- Michael Bisping was the prefight villain of the night at the United Center, but with a hard-fought performance against Chael Sonnen, he converted an awful lot of haters.
Sonnen took a unanimous decision but it was far from easy. Don't believe it? The brash Sonnen had nothing but nice things to say about one of mixed martial arts' No. 1 heels.
"The whole fight I was never in a position tonight where I was comfortable, not one. It was 15 awkward minutes. I don't have a bad thing to say about the guy," said Sonnen,
Both fighters were surprised it was announced that Sonnen swept the scorecards and one judge, Clay Goodman scored it 30-27.
"There's no way on earth that was a 30-27 and that judge needs to have a serious thinking about his career," said a frustrated Bisping.
Bisping's resolve was strengthened by an outpouring of support on Twitter and the Internet. He's never been received very well by fans and MMA media.
"I think I won rounds one and two. In this modern day of social networking, you just gotta look at the internet, and the general consensus is that people think I won the fight," said Bisping.
UFC president Dana White was also a strong backer of Bisping's performance.
Seconds after the final bell, even Sonnen thought Bisping may have pulled the upset.
"I said to him 'what do you think?' He said 'I think I might have gotten the first two.' I said 'yeah I think you might be right,'" Sonnen said.
The winner was quick to point out that a 30-27 score can be deceiving.
"That doesn't mean I disagree with the judges. They were close rounds. You can have a 30-27 that's still a close 30-27. I don't know that that judge was out of his mind. If it had gone the other way I don't know that I would've been complaining."
It might be even more surprising for fans and MMA experts to hear Sonnen say Bisping could've won the fight in the first.
"I was surprised about everything. Michael Bisping hit me so hard in the first round, I didn't even know what day it was," Sonnen said. "I remember when I came to, I looked at him thinking 'oh my god, you have no idea how bad you hurt me or you'd step in and do something about it.'"
- The event at the United Center was a rousing success with a huge crowd of 17,425. Lower ticket prices were great move by the promotion which still hauled in a gate of $1.2 million.
- The UFC handed out postfight awards to Lavar Johnson for Knockout of the Night and Charles Oliveira for Submission of the Night. Nick Lentz and Evan Dunham got Fight of the Night honors. All four got $65,000.

It was just two weeks ago that Muhammed Lawal was calling Quinton Jackson washed up and a B-level actor.
Jackson didn't say too much since, but he did sit down for an interview yesterday which happened to be perfectly timed with the news released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission that "King Mo" tested positive for an anabolic steroid following his Strikeforce fight.
"I feel that any fighter who has to use steroids to go in the cage and fight somebody is not a true fighter somebody just blatantly taking anabolical steroids to get in the cage is a sad case," said Jackson.
Jackson said Lawal's recent woes are to be expected.
"He talk a big game and calling people bums, it's just karma. Look at him. He's a very cocky individual," said Jackson.
Lawal tested positive for Drostanolone, but denied using any illegal substances.
Jackson shows a good sense of humor later in the interview over the fact that King Mo was mocking on his role in the "A-Team."

The most annoying conversation that emerges following a champion's dominant victory, are the cries of a division being cleared out. It's almost never the case.
Champs age, suffer injuries and the field of developing fighters beneath them eventually catches up.
Jon Jones is already getting that ridiculous treatment at light heavyweight, so Adam Hill from the Las Vegas Review-Journal put together a list over at ESPN.com to shine a light on the guys who may end Jones' dominance at 205 pounds. Phil Davis was tabbed the No. 1 prospect contender.
The parameters he used were active fighters who have not held a UFC belt in the weight class and haven't previously fought for a title in the weight class.
Check out the entire list here (sorry it's Insider access only). The list included fighters like:
8. Ryan Jimmo (16-1), UFC
The Canadian got knocked out in the first round of his MMA debut way back in 2007. Since then, he's lost one fight ....
3. Gegard Mousasi (32-3), Strikeforce
Though just 26 years old, Mousasi has fought 37 pro MMA bouts already and is an undefeated kickboxer. He also is a proficient wrestler and displays above-average grappling skills ...2.Alexander Gustafsson (13-1), UFC
This one is all about potential. The 6-foot-5 Swede is only getting better, and being teammates with Davis at Alliance MMA in San Diego can only help. Gustafsson, whose only loss came at Davis' hands in April 2010, has reeled off four straight stoppage victories, with visible improvement each time ...
He also listed Ryan Bader, Stanislav Nedkov, Thiago Silva and Rafael Cavalcante. Who did Hill miss?

Explosiveness against technique. It's a solid way to describe the main event tonight at UFC on FX 1.
Melvin Guillard can overwhelm his opponents, while Jim Miller can slowly pick you apart with his overall game. But there may be one other factor that determines the outcomes of this one. Guillard may simply be too big for Miller, one of the smaller fighters in the lightweight division.
Guillard tweeted this morning that he'll actually be over the welterweight limit as he steps into the Octagon tonight (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT) for this 155-pound tilt.
Kevin Iole and Frank Trigg joined myself on ESPN1100/98.9 FM in Las Vegas to make our picks using the Sin City betting odds. Iole likes Guillard and Trigg thinks the size disparity won't make a difference. He's worried about Guillard surviving if he doesn't finish the fight in the first few minutes.

Just after the NFC championship game went to the half Sunday, Fox usedits rather large, NFL playoff platform to get viewers excited for Saturday's "UFC on Fox" fights. Instead of showing another ad with fight highlights with a popular, adrenaline-pumping song playing, it showed UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones using his kicks for a slightly different purpose.
The ad didn't fit what MMA fans are used to, and that's the point. This ad wasn't for people who already had planned to tune into Saturday's bouts. The ad was to show the general public that fighters are men with families and a sense of humor. (Jones later tweeted that the young girl in the ad is not his daughter.)

Mike Pyle has fought all over the world, but even he admits tomorrow night at UFC 142, Rio de Janeiro could be unlike anything he's ever seen.
"We're fighting and we have to fight other countryman on their soil. That makes it fun. Get out there in some hostile territory," Pyle told ESPN1100/98.9 FM. "It's kind of different. You don't get booed and looked at in strange ways at home. It's cool. Makes me feel like a super villain."
Pyle won't be walking through the Rio crowd with complete unfamiliarity. He cornerd Forrest Griffin back at UFC 134 and saw how intense the Brazilians were that night.
"The energy was ... I just got chill bumps just now thinking about that night when we walked out, how intense the crowd was," Pyle said. "They were into it dude. I can't even put it into words. It was awesome."
Pyle, 36, has fought in Denmark, Russia and the U.K. This will be his first time in Brazil and he's facing Bahia, Brazil native Ricardo Funch. The American is coming off a quick loss against Rory MacDonald. He made sure to make some changes to get back on the right track.
Pyle added a new jiu-jitsu coach, Mitch Coats and Nate Pettit, who's serving as his main coach.

Another sign some of us are getting really old. How many of you folks remember watching a precocious 22-year-old Tito Ortiz debut at UFC 13 in 1997 and eventually slam his way to a UFC title in 2000?
One of the originals of this young sport just turned 37 yesterday.
Tito did it in style with his girlfiend Jenna Jameson at XS nightclub inside Encore Las Vegas.
[...] arrived at the hotspot after midnight and were seated at a private table overlooking the dance floor. Ortiz was dressed to the nines in a black pinstripe vest, black slacks, a black dress shirt and a white tie, while the blonde bombshell and former porn star wore skin-tight black pants, a shear top and fingerless leather gloves.
Before the late night party, Tito and friends celebrated just south on Las Vegas Boulevard at Caesars.
[...] Jameson and 18 of their friends dined at the new Old Homestead Steakhouse in Caesars Palace, feasting on Osetra caviar, shellfish platters, Dover sole, porterhouse steaks and side dishes.
The happy couple hung out the night before at Encore's Surrender. St Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford was also there.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has found his next opponent. Though the names Dan Henderson and Rashad Evans have been thrown around, he will face off with Derek Zoolander in a walk-off.
While in Brazil to take in UFC 142 last week, Jones walked in the Auslander fashion show. Skip to the 1:25 mark to see him.
He's a little too fast, but he did have the dead-eyed look that models work hard to achieve. But don't leave MMA for modeling, Jon. There's more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good-looking.

Over the course of the 14th season of "The Ultimate Fighter," Brazilian-born Diego Brandao talked about how he wanted to win the show so that he could buy his mother in Brazil a house. He did win, submitting Dennis Bermudez in the second round at the TUF finale in December.
Now, she is in a home. After the finale, he returned to Brazil and bought her a house. She started celebrating before he got home. From MMA Junkie:
"I can tell she's drunk," Brandao joked. "She's completely drunk. My friends told me, 'Eeesh, it was crazy during the fights in Manaus. Everything stopped.'"
Who can blame her? Her son made his dreams come true and was going to buy her a house. He turned heads earned a reputation for finishing fights while working his way through the show's tournament. He gave his mother plenty of reasons to celebrate.
Brandao trained with Jackson's MMA in New Mexico before fighting on TUF, and plans to return there soon after this weekend's fights in Rio de Janeiro. He does not yet have a fight lined up, but wants to be ready when he gets the call from the UFC.
With the UFC's featherweight division plumping up due to lightweight dropping down and the latest season of TUF, who would you like to see Brandao fight next? Tell us in the comments or on Facebook.

Jose Aldo knows he'll have to grapple come Saturday night in Rio de Janeiro so he brought in what he thinks is the answer to solve the Chad Mendes riddle. Gray Maynard is a former college wrestler just like Mendes. Mendes doesn't see the comparison.
"It think that's completely wrong just because you're a wrestler doesn't mean you're the samer as me," Mendes told ESPNRadio1100/98.9 FM. "I think our styles are completely different. In MMA, he doesn't really use a whole lot of wrestling anymore."
Mendes elaborated and sounded like he was getting more annoyed.
[ Don't miss the action: Watch UFC 142 live on Yahoo! Sports ]
"When he does wrestle, he's more of the bully. He's a slower, not very explosive [wrestler]. He gets you up against the cage and works for takedown from there," Mendes said. "My style of wrestling is more explosive from the open. Blast a double take you off your feet kind of wrestling."
What really set off Mendes was Maynard suggesting that he wasn't ready for a fight against Aldo.
"I don't see it. Him saying that I don't know where he's coming from. He's never trained with me. I don't know how he's saying he doesn't think that I'm ready. Maynard doesn't know anything about me."
Mendes challenges Aldo for his title on Saturday at UFC 142.
