Photo: Sir Charles Barkley enjoyed UFC 136

NBA legend and TNT analyst Charles Barkley was one of the 16,164 at the Toyota Center in Houston for UFC 136. Barkley took a second to pose for a picture with Strikeforce welterweight contender Tyron Woodley and his wife Averi.
Barkley was also in Philadelphia for UFC 133. He was known for being a bruiser in his NBA days, and once punched Chicago Bulls mascot Benny the Bull. Would you like to see him in the cage?
You tell us: Where is the fight capital of the world?

At a press conference in Toronto to officially announce UFC 140's main event of Jon Jones vs. Lyoto Machida, Dana White called Toronto the fight capital of the world. Considering how Toronto sold out the 55,000-seat Rogers Center for UFC 129 in April, it's not a stretch to commend the city for its support of MMA. But is it the capital?
Las Vegas, Nev. -- The homebase for Zuffa also hosts more UFC events than any other city every year. Recently, Sin City has also become the home for Strikeforce: Challengers shows, and it is also the home of some of the best MMA gyms.
Los Angeles -- The UFC turns to L.A. for its big heavyweight bouts, and the city turns out for every bout. If Orange County is included, the Los Angeles-area also is the home to Anderson Silva, Tito Ortiz and Mark Munoz's successful gym.
Rio de Janeiro -- With the exuberant way Rio responded to UFC 134, they jumped right onto this list. They also deserve to be here on the back of the Nogueira brothers, fighters born and raised in Rio. No word on if they danced along the sand.
Sydney -- Australia has embraced MMA wholeheartedly, selling out huge events the past two winters. Not only that, but fighters like George Sotiropoulos gleefully sell their country as an MMA haven at every opportunity.
Tokyo -- Though Japanese MMA isn't what it once was, Tokyo will always have a place in MMA's lore because of its role in launching Pride Fighting Championships. Their crowds are not the raucous masses of humanity that are in Sydney or Rio, but Japanese fights are spectacles like no other.
Toronto -- Dana White's choice for the world's MMA capital has plenty of fight fans and fighters. Though it is the city that dumped Sean Pierson from their police department for being a UFC fighter, it is also the city that welcome the UFC with open arms the second it was regulated there.
Now you tell us: Where is the fight capital of the world? Did we miss any on the list? Vote in the poll, and tell us your thoughts in the comments or on Facebook.

Amateur fighter dresses up as superhero, is arrested
It's a tough world out there, and we're in need of a hero. We're in need of someone to stand up for what's right. We're in need of a trained fighter to ... dress up as a superhero and pepper spray people randomly?
Wait, no. That's not what this world needs at all. Unfortunately, Ben Fodor, who has an 11-0 amateur record, is that guy. Using the name Phoenix Jones, Fodor was arrested in Seattle for assaulting a group of people with pepper spraywhile wearing a black mask with gold stripes and a bulging muscle bodysuit.
"Just because he's dressed up in costume, it doesn't mean he's in special consideration or above the law. You can't go around pepper spraying people because you think they are fighting," said Seattle police spokesman Det. Mark Jamieson.
Fodor said that he was breaking up a fight, but police said there is no indication that there was a fight. He released a shaky video of him "breaking up" a fight, but no fight is obvious from the video. Though some women hit Fodor with their shoes because they are angry about being pepper sprayed, no fight is clear.
Fodor's last MMA bout was in July of 2010. He has two wins by submission, with one listed as a choke and one omo plata. That means he should know jiu-jitsu well enough that he should be able to use a choke hold on drunk people in a fight, and not cover a crowd in pepper spray.
But this is a man who likes to dress up as a superhero and run around Seattle, "fighting crime" while angering police. It's safe to say reason and logic isn't his strong suit.

Chael Sonnen to Co-Host 2011 World MMA Awards; Show to Air on Fox Sports
Filed under: MMA Media Watch, News

The loquacious middleweight fighter has been named co-host for the 2011 World MMA Awards by Fighters Only Magazine, the publication announced Friday afternoon. Sonnen will share the stage with TV personality Molly Qerim, who co-hosted the event last year with Randy Couture.
News of Sonnen hosting the show was first reported by MMAWeekly.com Friday morning.
In addition, it was also announced that the awards show will air via tape delay across the Fox Sports regional networks and on Fuel TV. Air dates and times will be announced in the coming weeks.
"I say it every year that we want to make the awards show bigger and better and every year we have done just that," Rob Hewitt, CEO of Fighters Only, stated in a release. "However, none of it would be possible with out the support of the MMA industry, the fans, our sponsors and TV and venue partners who all believe as much as we do in this project. To celebrate the sport we love and the people within it in the way that we do is a crowning moment of the year for Fighters Only and we can't wait to reveal this year's winners."
World MMA Awards winners are selected by the fans. You can cast your vote by clicking here.
The fourth annual World MMA Awards takes place Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the Pearl Theatre inside the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. The event is open to the public, and tickets go on sale Friday afternoon at the Pearl box office or any Ticketmaster location.

Is The Stage Being Set For A Carlos Condit Upset?
MMANEWS.COM Staff Writer</B><BR><BR>
Given his scheduled bout with B.J. Penn (at UFC 137), it?s more than safe to assume that Carlos Condit is in excellent shape, and well prepared to fight. That said, there?s no doubt in my mind that Condit was prepared for a completely different form of chess match than the one in which he?ll engage Georges St. Pierre.<BR><BR>
The opportunity to step into Nick Diaz?s shoes at UFC 137 was unquestionably a once in a lifetime opportunity, and there was certainly no chance that Carlos Condit would refuse Dana White?s offer to replace Diaz (due to a string of questionable actions by the Stockton native). However, Condit prepared for a fighter so stylistically different from St. Pierre that although he may have been in shape and ready to fight, I have few doubts that he was ready to fight Georges St. Pierre.<BR><BR>
Battling a durable standup fighter with decent wrestling and a strong offensive jiu-jitsu from the top position is not even similar to fighting an amazingly agile fighter who?s practically mastered controlling distance, firing crisp combinations, avoiding while securing takedowns and unleashing one of the most brutal ground and pound assaults in the division today. B.J. Penn and Georges St. Pierre are almost (I stress almost) opposite fighters.<BR><BR>
If Carlos Condit hopes to dethrone the current champion, he?s going to need sufficient time to prepare a gameplan with which he can best combat St. Pierre?s incredibly intelligent fighting style. ?GSP? is not the flat footed warrior that Penn is, he?s a technical practitioner who prefers giving over receiving.<BR><BR>
Now, as both Condit and St. Pierre have trained under the tutelage of Greg Jackson, it?s important to note that that issue isn?t likely to become relevant during the fight. According to Jackson himself, the two spent very little time training together, and rarely, if ever, sparred with one another (Condit has also supported this statement). So, for those who are pondering just how well these two know each other in regards to physical techniques; apparently, not too much.<BR><BR>
Back to the fight at hand, which we now know has been postponed. Champion Georges St. Pierre has withdrawn from the slated bout citing a knee injury, and according to him, he?ll be on the shelf for some weeks, but he doesn?t expect to be out of commission too long. But as we all know, one man?s misfortune is another?s opportunity. It?s now up to Carlos ?The Natural Born Killer? Condit to invest serious time adapting his gameplan in preparation for a completely different fight.<BR><BR>
St. Pierre?s injury could serve to put him in more danger than he?s faced in years. Condit now knows the exact areas of his game with which he must focus on. For that matter, Carlos is also now aware that St. Pierre may cruise into the octagon (once the fight eventually unfolds) with a nagging injury; a target for any man hungry to lay claim to one of the sports most coveted prizes. But most of all, Carlos should have the best conceivable plan of attack with which to assault the champion. Carlos is already an aggressive competitor who knows where to take a fight, and when. The additional time to study and prepare could go a long way to improving the chances of a massive upset.<BR><BR>
While many pundits have already written off ?The Natural Born Killer?, it may be time to reevaluate the situation. When you examine the facts as they exist, Carlos Condit?s chances of success have increased astronomically. He?s now equipped with some tools that the typical St. Pierre challenger lacks. Toss in the fact that Condit not only refuses to back down, but actually becomes angry when on the losing end of a bout, and you?ve got yourself a serious chance of seeing a new champion crowned.<BR><BR>
Beware pundits, sale bets don?t always prove guarantees, and with the new intangibles in this equation, the final outcome is truly anyone?s guess.<BR><BR>

TUF 14 controversy: Akira says he didn?t tap, but then says he did
Only one guy counts in the discussion and that's referee Herb Dean, but anybody watching last night's episode of "The Ultimate Fighter" saw Akira Corassani tap and Dustin Neace robbed of a victory.
Late in the first round, Neace caught Corassani in heel hook/knee bar and it was pretty clear that he tapped, once, if not three times, with his right hand.

Neace, thinking the fight was finished, let the pressure off and Corassani popped free. Neace was mentally shot from there and got drilled by a left hook in the second that dropped him and eventually sealed the deal for his opponent.
On the tap, that wasn't ruled a tap, Corassani says he didn't tap, but then says he did.
"I've watched it maybe 100 times and I know for myself that I never tapped. Herb Dean has refereed thousands of fights and he didn't see a clear tap. Usually it's a horror scene when somebody taps from a heel hook. People start screaming and crying," wrote Corassani. "I raised my hand and tapped one time on his thigh but it wasn't one of those dramatic taps like a metal drummer. It slipped out and I just went up on him. I would be honest and say I tapped if I did."
Corassani says from there, he slipped out. Is that what happened or did Neace think the fight was over?
"[...] The other was that when he had me in a heel hook it wasn't there. It wasn't in. If you watch the video again you see my knee pop out because he slipped. He lost his grip. I was thinking 'holy shit he's got it!' I changed my mind the moment he slipped."
Corassani said it was survive and advance.
"I was almost gassed just walking into the cage. Whatever, I'm a professional and I got the job done. I had double vision the whole fight. I actually don't remember anything from that fight. I just remember two things. One is the knockdown."
Dana White bit his tongue, but admitted that no one would've complained had the fight been stopped. Dean is highly respected so he's getting a break here. One can only imagine what would've happened had Steve Mazzagatti made the same mistake.

Great conditions at Lake Neusiedl
You tell us: What fight are you most looking forward to in 2011?
Through the end of the year, the MMA world will go on a massive run of fights, taking time off only for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Nearly every weekend will feature events from the UFC, Strikeforce and Bellator.
Ben Askren vs. Jay Hieron at Bellator 56: Askren and Hieron have been jawing at each other over this bout since Hieron won the right to fight Askren for the Bellator welterweight belt. Askren's been working on his striking with Duke Roufus and his band of strikers in Milwaukee. Will that, combine with his world-class wrestling, be enough to hold off Hieron?
Clay Guida vs. Ben Henderson at UFC on Fox 1: Though Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos will be shown to the masses in the UFC's first fight on Fox, it's hard not to get hyped about Guida and Henderson's scrap. Both fighters are known for putting on exciting bouts and ridiculous conditioning. The best part? This bout should decide the next challenger for the UFC lightweight belt.
Dan Henderson vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 139: Pick your favorite storyline in this fight. Henderson's return to UFC after winning the Strikeforce light heavyweight championship. Two PRIDE champions meeting up. Shogun's chance to get revenge for Henderson's win over Rua's brother. Two men with scary striking power being thrown in the Octagon. No matter which way you look at it, this fight should be fun.
Jon Jones vs. Lyoto Machida at UFC 140: The UFC light heavyweight champ will get another chance to defend the belt against a former champion. Machida is 1-2 in his last fights, and like Jones, was once considered an unsolvable puzzle. This match-up will turn the main event at UFC 140 into a chess game.
Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem at UFC 141: Former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Overeem needed a big opponent for his first bout in the UFC, and opponents don't get much bigger than former champ Brock Lesnar. For Lesnar, it will be his first fight back since losing the belt. The Octagon will need reinforcement for this bout.
With so many fights coming up before the end of the year, there's a pretty good chance that Cagewriter didn't list your favorite fight. Vote in the poll, and tell us your favorite in the comments or on Facebook.

Vila, Dantas Lock Up Spots In Bellator Bantamweight Finals
"I cannot wait to see this bantamweight final," Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney said. "Alexis Vila, an Olympic wrestler with dynamite in his hands, is a 40-year-old world-class athlete that is just now hitting his peak. Then you have a 22-year-old buzzsaw Eduardo Dantas, who is the top Bantamweight prospect in the world. It was a great night of fights at Cocopah and I expect a great final next month."<br><Br>
Vila and Marcos Galvao traded shots for three rounds and though Galvao landed a flurry of leg kicks and stiff jabs, the judges liked Vila's aggression and the power behind the punches. The Olympic wrestler wasn't able to finish a lot of takedowns but dictated the pace of the fight and two judges scored it for Vila 29-28 while one judge saw it 30-27 completely in Galvao's favor, securing a finals spot for Vila. <br><Br>
Ed West had to pick his jaw off the floor when he heard Dantas declared the winner instead of him but this was a very close fight where both fighters stayed extremely active for three full rounds. West may have landed more strikes, but Dantas was able to make him miss often and staggered West with solid punches of his own. Two of three judges declared Dantas the winner, and with the victory Dantas secured his spot in the Bantamweight Finals against Vila. <br><Br>
Outside of tournament action, for the first time in the history of Bellator one of its Champions suffered a loss in a non-title Feature Fight. Current Light Heavyweight Champion Christian M'Pumbu met his match at Bellator 55 when he went up against Travis Wiuff, an enormous wrestler and veteran of 80 fights. Wiuff had trouble standing and trading punches with the champ as predicted, but managed to take him to the mat in all three rounds and won in dominant fashion by unanimous decision. Wiuff was excited to win the battle and looks forward to a chance to fight M'Pumbu for the belt if he can make it through all three rounds of the next Bellator Heavyweight Championship Tournament.<br><Br>
"I want a shot at the belt. That's why I'm here," Wiuff said. "I wish I could take more credit [for the win] but I'm just a big strong wrestler and he hadn't experienced that, but there are a lot of tough guys in Bellator at 205. I'm going to have to train my butt off for that."<br><Br>
Next week on October 29, the Bellator Welterweight Championship is on the line as champion Ben Askren takes on Jay Hieron the Season 4 Tournament Champion. Hieron upset the formerly unbeaten Rick Hawn to get to title shot and hopes he can be the first to beat another undefeated welterweight in Askren. Also at Bellator 56, Neil Grove will re-enter the Bellator Heavyweight Championship Tournament as both Mike Hayes and Blagoi Ivanov have suffered injuries that will keep them from competing in the semifinals. Grove steps in for Ivanov to fight Thiago Santoas and Eric Prindle is scheduled to face Ron Sparks. <br><Br>

With an ill father and a newborn, Grispi puts MMA on the backburner
What's wrong with Josh Grispi? That was the question on plenty of lips around the MMA community.
It turns out that life got in the way ... for now.
The fast-rising prospect saw his career derailed a bit by some trouble in the Octagon, but now all it has gone on hold as the 23-year-old is dealing with a situation that folks 20 and 30 years older would have trouble juggling.
In mid-August, Grispi's wife got through a difficult child birth when the UFC featherweight found out that his father had a brain tumor. On Aug. 14, just two days after Josh Jr. was born, Grispi's father, Richard, found out that the earache he was suffering from was a lot more serious.
"He's one to not go to the hospital. He'll just tough it out," Grispi told the Boston Herald at the beginning of October. "But I called and made an appointment for him and when he went in they rushed him right from the CT scan in Plymouth to Tufts in Boston. He didn't know what the heck what was going on."
It was a real wake-up call for the younger Grispi.
"I was a mess as soon as I knew he needed brain surgery," Grispi said. "I was just thinking it was his first grandson and he was just born and now with all this stuff, I want my dad to be there with his grandson. There was just a lot of stuff going through my head."
With training camp for UFC 136 about to take off, the -native had no choice but to drop out of his fight against Matt Grice.
"All I can think about is I don't want my dad to see my last two fights be losses," Grispi said. "I want to get back in there. But I don't think I should have even fought those two fights (2010 losses against Dustin Poirier and ). I should have just taken care of myself when I needed to, but I needed money. I was having a kid so I needed to save up more money. I was fighting for the wrong reasons."
Grispi has a bright future in front of him. Now it's time to take of the real important things in his life. MMA can wait, hopefully he comes back with the kind of focus that got him very close to landing a 2010 title shot against Jose Aldo Jr.
"Now I want to get back into it and love it again and not look at it like a job anymore," Grispi said. "My other (pre-UFC) fights, it wasn't like a job. I was just having fun, going in there and doing my thing. Then I put all this pressure on myself and (the losses) happened. I'm looking to get back in there as quickly as possible, but not to the point where I can't go in there and have a blast like I usually do."

For Shane Carwin, It's Surgery, Then Return to Address 'Unfinished Business'
Filed under: UFC, MMA Fighting Exclusive, News

For Carwin, the problem will result in his second major surgery in a year. On November 15, doctors will perform a procedure that will drill out bone and give his spinal cord some room to keep a disc from pressing against his nerves.
The surgery is scary, but as Carwin tells it, not as scary as the moment that led to it.
He had noticed that anytime he was doing jumping exercises, his legs would lock up briefly, but he reasoned that his muscles were just taking longer than usual to warm up. But on one recent day, he was working on wrestling takedowns, and suddenly fell flat on his back. It was at that point when he realized that his legs had gone completely stiff.
"Honestly, I thought I was almost paralyzed," he told MMA Fighting.
The feeling came back about 15 seconds later, but Carwin knew something was very wrong with his body. A follow-up MRI revealed damage that put the former UFC interim light-heavyweight champion on the shelf and in a predicament. His doctor gave him two options. Either he could go through surgery, or he could retire.
While it wasn't a snap decision, it wasn't a hard one either.
After consulting with his doctor, Carwin (12-2) spoke with both his wife Lani and manager Jason Genet. To him, it sounded like the surgery was inevitable at some point as his symptoms weren't likely to just go away on their own. It was possible he could retire and need the procedure a year down the road, so, he reasoned, why not just do it now and continue on with his fight career? It's not like he's afraid of the hard work he'll have to put in to return. This is the guy who nearly won a UFC championship while holding a fulltime job as an engineer. If anyone was going to embrace this uphill task, it's him.
"If I didn't believe I still had a title run left in me, I would retire," he said. "I feel like I still have some things to prove. I have unfinished business. I love the doubters."
Carwin is not likely to return to the octagon until around the summer of 2012. At that point he'll be 37 years old, coming off two surgeries in less than two years, and looking to break a two-fight losing streak. So there will likely be many doubters to be found.
It wasn't long ago though when he was the next big thing, an undefeated 12-0 with 12 first-round finishes heading into his heavyweight championship fight with Brock Lesnar at UFC 116. In that bout, he seemed on his way to lucky 13, punishing Lesnar in a first-round barrage that nearly caused a stoppage on more than one occasion. But Lesnar withstood the ferocious onslaught and rebounded with a second-round arm-triangle submission.
After surgery in November 2010 that addressed neck and disc damage that was a result of wear and tear throughout his athletic career, Carwin came back almost a year after his last fight, ironically replacing a recently dethroned Lesnar in a No. 1 contenders bout with Junior dos Santos at UFC 131. The performance undeniably exhibited Carwin's toughness (he was outstruck 104-22 according to FightMetric), but for him, it ultimately proved to be the most disappointing of his career.
Carwin offers few excuses for the loss, saying that it's the one fight he'd like to take back.
"The Junior fight just wasn't me," he said. "I don't think mentally it was me. When I went out there, I didn't press and get in his face like I typically would. That's one time to perform, and I just didn't perform to my best. I could sit here and look at things here or there I could have done better, but the fact of the matter is that I didn't perform to my best."
That memory will at least partially motivate Carwin forward as he works though rehabilitation and finds his way back into the gym. At least for a short time, it had already been doing so. Shortly before his injury occurred, the UFC had given Carwin an indication that he would be on the year-end event at UFC 141, and he had been in the gym gearing up his training.
By the time he returns a few months from now, the division is likely to look quite different. A title fight with Cain Velasquez hoping to defend his belt against dos Santos is on the horizon, and at the end of the year, Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem will tangle in a bout that could produce the next top contender.
"The heavyweight division is exciting," he said. "I can see any of those four guys holding the belt. It sure makes for some exciting matchups."
But there's even more depth likely on the way. Top 10 heavyweight Fabricio Werdum is likely to be shipped in soon, and by the time Carwin returns, Strikeforce might have folded up shop and brought its talented big men to the UFC's octagon.
Carwin has no predictions on the world he'll walk back into when his body is healed up, but he knows the division has its challenges.
The only challenge for him now is getting healthy. Doctors have told him that he should return to "as normal as whatever athletes can be" after years of wear and tear. There is no guarantee, just the promise in his mind. Asked if he has anything he'd like to say about his future, the soft-spoken heavyweight laughs. There will be no big proclamations forthcoming.
"I appreciate being part of the sport and the opportunities it's given me in life," he says.
And with that, Shane Carwin goes back to work.

Georges St. Pierre is hoping for a Super Bowl weekend return

When Georges St. Pierre realized that his knee was too injured for him to fight at UFC 137, he was shaken up. He admitted that he let some emotion show when he had to pull out of the bout with Carlos Condit.
"I'm not going to lie, I cried yesterday," St-Pierre told SportsNets. "I had a ton of pressure falling off my shoulders, because for the last few days I was in the mindset that I was nervous for the fight. I was excited for the fight but I was also nervous to know if I was going to be able to fight."
He sprained his MCL while training on Tuesday afternoon. Though it was an injury serious enough to pull him from the fight, it won't keep him out for too long. He is hoping to be able to fight on the UFC's Super Bowl weekend card, normally one of the bigger events on their calendar.
"I would say maybe end of January, possibly the beginning of February [for my return]?Super Bowl, around this time," St-Pierre said.
Condit told Cagewriter that he was hoping to fight GSP for the belt by the end of the year, but with GSP's timetable, Condit will have to wait a bit longer.

Marcus Davis interview: Veteran is still fighting, but not because he has to
Marcus Davis is on the outside looking in, but it doesn't bother the 38-year-old that his days in the UFC may be over. Those 14 fights over the course of six years, have set him up for some big things down the road.
Davis is fighting this weekend in Miami on the W-1 card at the Bank United Center against Season 13 "Ultimate Fighter" alum Chuck O'Neill (FoxSportsNet).
Davis keeps stepping into the cage because he loves, and thankfully, not because he has to as so many older guys in the past havbe.
"It really is about the fights. I'm a fighter, I've always been a fighter and I'm just fighting man," Davis told the "MMA Insiders Show" on ESPNRadio1100. "I just love showing up. I love fighting. I love entertaining. That's what I do. That's my job and that's why I got this real positive outlook and I'm back winning fights."
Davis is a busy man. He's already promoted three shows in Maine and headlined the last one on Sept. 24. Davis has opened two MMA gyms in his home state. More significantly, he also helped get the sport legalized in Maine. Davis was so impressive during his pitch in front of legislators a few of them said he should look into a future in politics.
Check out the part of the conversation where Davis also talks about how dangerous it was to try and cut down to lightweight (8:40 mark). He fought twice at 155 pounds and put himself in real jeopardy when he did so for a fight against Curtis DeMarce in Canada.
Bellator 55 Results and Recap: Vila vs. Dantas Final Set, Champ M?Pumbu Falls
The card also marked the first time a Bellator champion lost in a non-title feature fight, as light heavyweight champion Christian M'Pumbu lost to journeyman Travis Wiuff. Meanwhile, TUF 8 champion Efrain Escudero won his unaired prelim.
Andrei "The Pit Bull" Arlovski Recorded Live Video Chat July 8th 2011 - Andrei Arlovski

What you need to know from this week on ?The Ultimate Fighter?
Welcome to week four of "The Ultimate Fighter." Who wins the two fights? Will Jason "Mayhem" Miller figure out who the spy is on his team? Will Team Bisping finally get a win? Read on for spoilers and the show recap.
Secret agent man of the week: John Dodson of Team Miller clued Team Bisping in that Stephen Bass is going to be in the next bout. Bisping then made Bass the focus of practice. Bisping even gave Bass a black eye. How sweet.
Fight no. 1 announcement of the week -- Denis Bermudez (Miller) vs. Stephen Bass (Bisping): That was just as Dodson told Bisping, who didn't even show up. His fighters said that they didn't care about it so many times that it was pretty clear that they cared.
Since this is a two-fight episode, we jumped directly into the bouts.
Fight no. 1 of the week -- Bermudez vs. Bass:
Round 1: Bermudez started with a hard-fought takedown, followed by unrelenting ground and pound. As Bipsing yelled, "Get up!" Bass had no response. In the final minute, Bermudez took Bass' back and flattened him out. Bermudez continued to land punch after punch while Miller yelled, "He's breaking."
Round 2: Bermudez started aggressively, taking Bass down again and raining down punches. Bass had one break, when he briefly caught Bermudez's leg for a heel lock, but Bermudez got out to take him down and beat him up again. Finally, after Bermudez stretched Bass out and landed even more punches, the fight was stopped.
Afterwards, Bisping pointed out that his fighters have all lost for not listening to him or following the gameplan.
Fight announcement No. 2 of the week -- Dustin Pague (Team Miller) vs. Louis Gaudinot (Team Bisping): Once Dustin walked to the center, he pulled out a green wig to let Gaudinot know that he was in the next fight.
Finally, Miller has figured out that Bisping has a mole. He doesn't know who the mole is, and doesn't really care.
Uprising of the week: Bass said to Bisping that he went too hard in his practice, and that was a problem in his fight. Bisping blew up at the suggestion that the loss of his own fighter was in any way his fault.
Before their fight, Gaudinot said that the real green hair is going to win. He does realize that his green hair is not actually green, right? That's not a hair color found in nature.
Fight No. 2 of the week -- Pague vs. Gaudinot:
Round 1: The fight started with a ton of activity, as Pague used knees and a takedown, and Gaudinot used kicks. Pague was effective in the clinch, and Gaudinot threw a spinning kick that would have decapitated Pague if it would have landed. It didn't. In the final minute, Pague defended Gaudinot's takedown attempt, drove him into the fence and landed several punches.
Round 2: Pague knocked Gaudinot down in the first minute, then followed him to the ground. Gaudinot worked back to his feet, but Pague made him pay for it by knocking him down and beating him up again. As blood poured from Gaudinot's face, Pague sunk in a tight rear naked choke and Gaudinot tapped.
Two fights, and two wins for Team Miller. That makes it 4-0 this season, and no one is happier about it than Miller.

Mir Thinks Lesnar Will Beat Overeem "Easily"
MMANEWS.COM Staff Writer<Br><Br>
Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem will meet in December it what will be a true case of striker vs. grappler, Overeem's stellar K-1 level striking vs. Lesnar's stand out wrestling.<Br><Br>
Frank Mir, who has fought Lesnar twice, talked about the New Year's Eve heavyweight showdown this week and in his opinion, it's Lesnar's outstanding wrestling that will be the difference:<br><Br>
?Honestly, I think Brock will win pretty easily,? Mir told ESPN.com.<br><Br>
?I think we?re going to see the closest thing to a grappler versus striker match you?ll see nowadays. Brock is going to cover up; maybe throw one jab. He?ll rush Overeem to the cage, reach down for a leg and rip him down."<br><Br>
?I don?t think he?s going to get off his back. I?d be very shocked -- I?d applaud Overeem if he got off his back.?<br><Br>

Frankie Edgar trying to get Jets another win tonight
Last season, UFC lightweight champ Frankie Edgar spoke to the New York Jets on the eve of their pivotal game against the Texans. Their come-from-behind win put them in first place and helped them get to the playoffs.
The Jets have another important game Monday night. They face the Miami Dolphins, and need a win. New York sits at 2-3 and have to come up with a win to keep pace with the Patriots and the Bills.
According to MMA Fighting, Edgar visited with Rex Ryan's team on Sunday night. The timing makes sense for Edgar, as he just came from behind again in a bout with Gray Maynard. This time, he won by KO, which is something that the Jets will want to do to their division.
But against the 0-4 Dolphins? They really need inspiration to take out the team whose coach is on the hot seat? With the Patriots and Bills on their schedule in the next few weeks, they may be going to the Edgar well a bit early.
Massenzio goes unconventional route to smash Cantwell; Simpson, Elkins and Miocic also undercard winners at UFC 136
HOUSTON - Mike Massenzio is a wrestler by trade, but when his takedown game didn't produce results the New Jersey-native made it into a street fight. Massenzio consistently landed uppercuts and straight lefts to brutalize Steve Cantwell on his way to a unanimous decision victory, 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28, in the first fight at UFC 136.
Massenzio (12-5, 2-3 UFC) has been a loyal soldier for the UFC. He was called in on short notice for his last fight against Krzysztof Soszynski at UFC 131. Massenzio was out of his league at light heavyweight. Tonight, at his more natural 185 pounds, he was the better conditioned and tougher fighter.
Cantwell's stand up is very good and he looked to be on his way to a victory at the end of the first round. Massenzio was getting caught by body shots and backing up. In the second, everything changed. Massenzio worked consistently for the takedown. None of them worked, but it wore down Cantwell.
In the final seven minutes of the fight, Cantwell had his nose broken and started dropping his hands.
Simpson dominates Schafer on the way to his sixth UFC victory
Aaron Simpson doesn't have to fight, he simply loves doing so. It doesn't hurt that the 37-year-old, is still a physical specimen. Eric Schafer simply couldn't keep pace with Simpson tonight. The former Arizona State wrestling star stood with Schafer for 15 minutes and tore him up to score a unanimous decision victory, 30-27 on all cards, at the Toyota Center.
Simpson (11-2, 6-2 UFC) has a decorated amateur wrestling background, but his hands have improved vastly. Schafer's big strength is his submission game, so Simpson decided to slug it out. It worked. He had Schafer rocked on several occasions and dropped him in the final 15 seconds of the second round.
Elkins thwarts Zhang guillotine attempts to pick up easy win
Tiequan Zhang's guillotine is dangerous, but tonight it was the only thing he tried. Darren Elkins survived a submission attempt at the start of each round, gained top control and dominated his opponent on the ground for a unanimous decision victory, 30-26, 30-27 and 30-27.
Zhang, the only high level Chinese fighter working under the Zuffa banner, now has a 2-2 record with the company. The UFC is looking to break new ground in China and would love to market some Chinese fighters. It's probably safe to assume there will be dozens of Chinese fighters in the near future, but right now Zhang (15-2, 1-1 UFC) doesn't look like the guy to carry the banner.
Elkins (13-2, 3-1 UFC) fought twice for the UFC at lightweight. After a loss to Charles Oliveira, he dropped to 145, where he's now 2-0.
Miocic outlasts Beltran to get first UFC victory
Joey Beltran is no easy mark so Stipe Miocic knew it was going to be a grind to get a victory in his first UFC fight. Miocic landed some bombs and scored five easy takedowns on the way to a unanimous decision victory, 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28, in the final fight of the UFC 136 undercard on Facebook.

Monday morning(ish) KO: Kimbo Slice?s boxing win
Though most of the boxing world was focused on Bernard Hopkins this weekend, former UFC heavyweight Kimbo Slice had his second boxing match this weekend. It didn't take long.
In just 47 seconds, he took out Tay Bledsoe, a tall cruiserweight whose record is now 2-4. With two wins now under his belt in the ring, is Slice a full-fledged boxer, or is he still a former mixed martial artist who is now trying boxing? Tell us in the comments or on Facebook.
The agony of defeat: Florian and Maynard both down in the dumps, but with different look on future
Fans don't often get to see the other side of fight night, the aftermath for the loser. Weeks, if not months of training is spoiled and then 30 minutes later, the fighter has to face the music with the media.
The postfight press conference for UFC 136 reminded us once again just how devastating a loss can be. Gray Maynard and Kenny Florian sat there for 45 minutes and spoke in somber tones.
Maynard vowed to fight on while Florian didn't seem very sure of what was next.
The 35-year-old alum of Season 1 of "The Ultimate Fighter" released a statement yesterday making it sound like he needs a lot of time off to either re-ignite his passion and decide to walk away.
"I am passionate about mixed martial arts, and I love being involved in this sport. It is incredible to see how much MMA has grown and that, today, there are millions of people who enjoy the UFC as much as I do," Florian said.
"Second, everyone is asking what is next for me. The only response I can give right now is that I'm going to take some time. I want to rest, spend some time with my family and friends, and then evaluate all of my options. I'll speak with Dana, and my manager, Glenn Robinson, and we will figure out my next move. When I make that decision, my fans will be the first to know. One way or another, you haven't seen the last of Ken-Flo!"
Saturday night was the first time Maynard officially felt the sting of losing in the UFC. While incredibly down, he made it clear that he'll be back in the gym in an effort to get back near the top.
"He hit me on the button. That hasn't ever happened to me. Even in the gym," Maynard said. "I'm down, but I'm not out. I'm going to climb the ladder. I know it might take a while, but that's me. That just who I am. I'm going to show everybody I can still do it. I got heart. I'm not going to quit."
Maynard is still in the mix for the UFC lightweight title. He's 1-1-1 against the champion Frank Edgar. Edgar's future is filled with peril at 155 pounds. He'll likely defend next against Gilbert Melendez or thewinner of Ben Henderson-Clay Guida. Maynard could be matched up against Melvin Guillard, Anthony Pettis, Matt Wiman, Denis Siver or Jim Miller.

Three Stars from UFC 136: Edgar, Sonnen and Lauzon

UFC 136 started out slow, as the first six fights went to decision. Things changed once the pay-per-view started, as fans were given their $54.95's worth in every main card bout. Who were your three stars? Tell us in the comments on Facebook.
No. 1 star -- Frankie Edgar: How do you erase every bad memory from a draw? Withstand a first-round onslaught from Gray Maynard, then knock him out in the fourth round. Edgar defended his belt for the third time by following a smart but aggressive strategy that ended with a decisive KO. He has plenty of fighters, including Strikeforce champ Gilbert Melendez, vying for the right to fight him next, but for now, Edgar can just enjoy not thinking about Maynard for another minute.
No. 2 star -- Chael Sonnen: Which performance was more impressive: his dismantling of Stann, or his speech calling out Anderson Silva after the bout? Sonnen used slick takedowns before choking out Stann with an arm triangle in the second round. Then, he asked for a bout with Silva, but "raised the stakes" by challenging him to a win-or-go-home bout. The UFC has not confirmed that Sonnen will get the next middleweight title shot, but they would only fail to make it if they suddenly decided that they hated making money.
No. 3 star -- Joe Lauzon: His last three wins were slick submissions, so it's no surprise that Melvin Guillard forgot that Lauzon can throw a punch, too. His strike in the first minute of their bout wobbled Guillard enough that Lauzon was able to return to his bread and butter, as he slapped on a rear-naked choke that Guillard could not escape.
